Israeli airstrikes in Gaza have claimed the lives of over a dozen individuals and decimated the primary cardiac unit of the main hospital, according to Gaza authorities, amid the ongoing conflict in the blockaded enclave for the 37th consecutive day. A residence in Khan Younis bore the brunt of an Israeli airstrike, resulting in at least 13 casualties, as Israeli forces maintained their encirclement of Gaza's largest medical facility, al-Shifa.
The Ministry of Health's spokesperson in Gaza, Ashraf al-Qudra, informed Al Jazeera that al-Shifa Hospital is now inoperable, incapable of offering any medical assistance to patients within the facility due to incessant Israeli assaults. Israeli bombardments have been directed at the hospital's periphery and anyone navigating the courtyard, posing a threat to those attempting to access the complex's entrance.
"We've experienced fatalities in the nursery as vital life support machinery ceased to function within the segment housing an additional 37 children, all of whom are at the precipice of death," lamented al-Qudra. He went on to disclose that five individuals among the wounded succumbed to their injuries, with medical teams unable to conduct crucial surgical procedures due to the ongoing power outage and a scarcity of fuel.
The Health Ministry in Gaza reports a staggering toll since the commencement of the conflict, with over 11,000 Palestinians losing their lives, and a significant two-thirds comprising women and children. Additionally, approximately 2,700 individuals have been declared missing, presumed to be either trapped or deceased beneath the rubble of the devastated areas.
